Light Fixtures

Mix & Match

Lighting can truly make or break a space. I always think of decorative lighting as the jewelry of the space, it might not be a necessity but it definitely completes the space when you get it right! This mix and match suite of lighting are the fixtures we have in our new home.

Throughout our home we have a mixture of brushed brass and oil rubbed bronze and/or black in the cabinet hardware, plumbing fixtures, and the lighting. This mixture of finishes adds depth and interest while creating a more curated look. Of all of the fixtures shown only 2 are actually from the same family of fixtures. Keeping with similar tones, materials, and shapes made mixing fixtures more seamless. Fixtures that each have their own style really do add some personality to a home.

A few things to keep in mind when designing a suite of lighting is that keeping with a common theme helps to tie the fixtures together. For our home we went with brushed brass, oil rubbed bronze and/or black, and seeded glass. Another thing to keep in mind is that rarely are different fixtures so close to each other that differences are obvious, so finishes that don’t match perfectly really aren’t that big a deal!

Lastly, ensuring that there is enough task lighting should definitely be the first priority in spaces like the kitchen and bathroom. We did this through recessed lighting and the decorative fixtures truly are the jewelry!
